Niger seed (also known as Nyjer or Thistle seed) is rich in oil and will attract goldfinches, greenfinches, chaffinches, bullfinches and siskins as well as many other small songbirds. It is not usually touched by squirrels or large birds. Niger seed needs to be to be dispensed from special Niger seed feeders as the grains are too fine for the ports of normal seed feeders. Alternatively they can be used on bird tables.
